Position Summary:

The Business Intelligence (BI) Data Architect is an experienced IT Professional that has an extensive background in Data Warehousing Development.  The candidate will join the IT BI Department as a senior member in a team environment designing, building and maintaining business intelligence applications. The ideal candidate 10 or more years of experience in Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence and has working knowledge of Microsoft BI tools SSIS, SSAS and SSRS or similar Data Warehousing Database, ETL and Reporting Tools. The BI Data Architect will deliver analytical applications to the organization that include ETL, Data Marts, Data Cubes (OLAP), standard reports and other analytical applications as required.  The candidate will fill a strategic role assessing Data Architecture for future evolution and change and assess business needs, recommending new Database, ETL, Visualization and Analytic tools as required.  The candidate will provide forward-thinking Business Intelligence and Data Management recommendations and take the lead on managing the Company’s Business Intelligence and Data Architecture.  The BI Data Architect will serve as the Technical Lead for all Design and Development efforts on the Data Warehouse Platform.


Duties and Responsibilities Include:


Data Warehouse Design:  Translate Business Requirements into Data Warehouse solutions leading the development team’s data analysis and data and ETL design efforts. 


Data Warehouse Architecture: Analyze the Platform and Data architecture in the Data Warehouse environment and provide recommendations for a Strategic Roadmap. This includes recommendations for Architecture Improvements utilizing the current Platform as well as recommendations for alternatives.  Develop Standards for Database Design, ETL Processes and end-user access layers.  Develop Architecture for Data Quality.


Development:  Data Architecture, Data Models, ETL and OLAP Cubes – Design, Develop and Deploy Dimensional Data Models.   Create Integration Services packages, scripts and other elements to move data from source systems into the data warehouse. The BI Data Architect will also utilize data transformation steps to cleanse, aggregate and summarize data to create star schemas consisting of fact and dimension tables.  The candidate will assist in reviewing design and code produced by team members.


Report Development – Work in collaboration with the organization to understand business issues, identify new valuable areas of analysis and develop reports that analyze data warehouse information to support effective rapid decision making.  Serve as the Technical lead in Architecting solutions using SSRS, Tableau, and other Reporting and Visualization Tools.



Production Processing Support – Provide Leadership to the BI team in supporting and troubleshooting issues as needed for the automated ETL data processing environment.   Assess the growing and evolving environment for improvement and work with the BI team to enhance process logic, improve data quality, and improve performance and data availability. 

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Eight or more years’ experience building Data Warehouse and Business intelligence solutions.
  • Extensive Expertise in Data Analysis, Database Design and Data Architecture; strong SQL skills.
  • Define enterprise data architecture vision, strategy, principles and standards; get buy-in from stake-holders, management, business partners. Work with Management to Develop the IT Data Warehouse Roadmap.
  • Assist in the evaluation, selection and testing of BI-DW related software and hardware products.
  • Ability to work with Project Managers and Lead Developers in analyzing and translating Business Requirements into Data Warehouse Design.
  • Ability to understand End-user interaction and needs with the Data Warehouse and Architect solutions for more efficient and effective analytic capabilities.
  • Demonstrable experience using Microsoft Business Intelligence technologies: SQL Server, SSAS, SSIS, SSRS or similar technologies.
  • Experience with Big Data tools and technologies is a definite plus.
  • Ability to comprehend index design and SQL statement optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment on complex problems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both Code and Data quality issues.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Strong work ethic and organized work habits.
  • Ability to interface well with business end-users and vendors.

Bachelor’s degree in Math, IT or Finance.
