Position Summary

The Business Systems Engineer (BSE) performs technical systems analysis, design, construction, implementation, and maintenance activities in support of business systems. The BSE is a technical leader and possesses advanced technical and business knowledge and skills. The BSE is highly skilled in structured system development methodologies, software development tools, and change management methods.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

• Requires strong documentation skills as well as creativity and technical understanding in order to put together a sound set of technical deliverables.
• Contributes to project plans and technical architecture design. When assigned to projects, the BSE fully understands project scope, objectives, and timelines and helps explain them to business staff and systems engineering staff. Development work involves technical analysis, systems design, software development and system integration. Maintenance work involves technical problem resolution, and system documentation maintenance.
• The BSE acts as an individual contributor on a high level, a technical expert and a business systems provider. The BSE mentors less experienced personnel. The BSE contributes to the development of new principles and concepts in a specific discipline and will develop solutions to complex problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

Position Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of college education with an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Management Information Systems equivalent is highly desirable.
• 3 to 5 years of information systems development experience
• 2 to 4 years of industry standard systems analysis techniques including data modeling, process modeling, data flow diagramming, information engineering, Unified Modeling Language UML, Rational Unified Process (RUP), business process reengineering (BPR), and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI).
• Experience with software languages to include C#, .NET, C/C++, Visual Basic, JAVA, HTML, XML, and SQL.
• Worked with Oracle RDBMS, SQL Server, or IBM Mainframe
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and MS Project.
• Candidate must be able to work independently on projects assigned.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills required.
• Ability to develop process and data models for business process and data analysis
• Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Ability to facilitate and lead business analysis process and team through Joint Applications Development (JAD)
• Normal office environment. Uses phone, copier, calculator, fax, computer and screen to complete work and support users.
• Travels from site to site on and off campus. Requires traveling by commercial carriers.
