Position Summary

The Network Engineer II will support a datacenter network as well as a global corporate network with locations around the world. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, articulate, familiar with Cisco equipment (router, switches, firewalls and VPN), related network technologies, and have a proven history of using management and monitoring tools.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Must be able to work independently to troubleshoot, perform root cause analysis, identify and isolate technical issues.
  • Must be willing to take ownership of the issue analysis and resolution efforts and commit to "doing what it takes" to resolve technical issues regardless of the effort or timeframe required.Triaging as necessary for production, QA & development environments.
  • Mentor Net1: through leadership and setting positive examples.
  • Maintaining and monitoring network equipment.
  • Monitoring and managing network capacity.
  • Troubleshooting issues related to production systems, triaging as necessary for production, QA & development environments.
  • Work on systems initiatives and new projects.
  • Complete tasks required to maintain service levels and availability of all site features and functions.
  • Work with external vendors/consultants to diagnose complex problems and drive resolution.
  • Resolve errors and alarms quickly and provide timely escalation.
  • Work with external vendors/consultants/carriers as required for troubleshooting and/or initiatives.
  • Supporting process improvements.
  • Full-time position with on-call duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements

  • Bachelors in an engineering discipline, or Cisco technical certification, or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years of experience using Cisco L3/L2 switches & routers from stackable to chassis 6500 series, in a multi-site environment
  • 3+ years managing firewall and VPN equipment (Cisco ASA experience highly regarded).
  • 7+ years troubleshooting TCP/IP and Ethernet networks.
  • Knowledge of Windows, UNIX/Linux, Oracle, MS-SQL.
  • Strong skills with using and diagnosing network captures.
  • Strong understanding of and practical experience with network security best-practices.
  • Experience with proxy systems and load balancers
  • Experience with IDS/IPS systems and technologies.
  • Expertise with compression and encryption technologies
  • Must have strong communication skills and ability to work individually, within a team, with other groups and with customers.
  • Must have ability to communicate complex technical problems concisely and professionally to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven problem solving skills with an emphasis on quick problem resolution.
  • Ability to work on many tasks simultaneously in a high-pressure environment.
  • Understanding of or experience supporting BGP & OSPF routing.
  • Experience supporting web servers and with disaster recovery strategies.
  • Understanding of or experience with virtualization technology and supporting .NET application (preferred).

 

Physical Requirements

Lifting up to 75 lbs as required, ability to relocate and move servers and network equipment.
Ability to bend, stretch, kneel to perform cable management. This requires tedious detail to properly install, label and appropriately route network cables. Must adhere to datacenter cabling guidelines. Individuals must be able to physically lift, bend, and crawl in tight spaces.
