Job Description

Position Summary

Monitors and maintains systems in a 24x7 highly-available production environment. The ideal candidate will be self motivated and articulate, familiar with Solaris Unix and Linux operating systems, related software technologies, and have a proven history of using administrative tools and automating routine administration tasks.

 

Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
  • Experience administering Solaris operating systems-demonstrate aptitude to install, configure, monitor and tune operating systems, application environments and third party tools.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify, isolate and perform root cause analysis of complex technical issues.
  • Work on system initiatives and new projects with demonstrated experienced in balancing and setting priorities.
  • Schedules installations and upgrades in accordance with IT policies and procedures.
  • Experience supporting day to day administration functions including user account management and script creation.
  • Monitor systems for capacity and performance and create related documentation and reports.
  • Maintain system documentation utilizing established documentation standards documentation.
  • Create scripts for monitoring systems and critical applications, and related events.
  • Backing up and restoring file systems.
  • Support process improvements.
  • Full time position with on-call duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Position Requirements

  • 2-3 years work experience as a Systems Administrator.
  • Must have experience implementing and managing enterprise class server environments.
  • Understanding of Sun Solaris and Linux operating systems, file systems, storage environments, and networking protocols.
  • Practical understanding of networking-routing, subnets, UDP, TCP, IT and VLANS.
  • Practical scripting skills – Shell, PERL, batch, VB
  • Demonstrate professional communication skills and ability to work individually, within a team, with other groups and with customers.
  • Must have ability to communicate complex to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with backup software and recovery strategies.
  • Understanding of or experience with San storage with a focus on Brocade switches and Hitiachi hardware.
  • Understanding of or experience supporting .NET application preferred.
  • Understanding of or experience with virtual environments preferred.
  • Experience using Veritas Volume Manager preferred.
  • Associates degree in an engineering discipline, or Technical certifications in related technologies, or equivalent work experience. Unix/Storage certifications are highly desirable.

 

Physical Requirements

Lifting up to 75Lbs as required, ability to relocate and move servers and network equipment.
Ability to bend, stretch, kneel to perform cable management. This requires tedious detail to properly install, label and appropriately route network cables. Must adhere to datacenter cabling guidelines. Moves / Adds / Changes – moves of computers when necessary.
Individuals must be able to physically lift, bend, and crawl under desks.
